Dr. Katerina (Aikaterini) Frantzi is a Professor in the Department of Mediterranean Studies at the University of the Aegean. Furthermore, she serves as the Director of the Laboratory of Informatics within the same department. She held the position of Head of the Department of Mediterranean Studies from 2018 to 2022. Dr. Frantzi’s academic career is further highlighted by her role as Deputy Director in the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme of Studies “Analysis and Teaching of First and Second/Foreign Language” (October 2021 – August 2022).

In the realm of research, Prof. Frantzi has led significant projects, serving as the Scientific Head for the University of the Aegean in the Apollonis project and the CLARIN:EL initiative. She has also been a reviewer for the International Conference on Computational Linguistics (COLING) since 2018. Additionally, she contributes to the organization of conferences and workshops, showcasing her commitment to fostering intellectual exchange and collaboration.

Prof. Frantzi’s scholarly impact is evident through her work on investigating stem allomorphy in Greek and Arabic based on lexical frequency, her contributions to computational linguistics and its applications, and her exploration of vocabulary in a corpus of written production by Greek learners of English. 

Role in GRADIENCE: Prof. Frantzi contributes to the development of the Wordlist tool tailored for educators and will also participate in the publication process of the anticipated research outcomes.
