Dr. Anthi (Anthoula) Revithiadou currently holds the position of Professor of Linguistics, specializing in Phonology and Morphophonology, at the Department of Linguistics at A.U.Th. She obtained her Ph.D. from Leiden University/HIL in 1999, with her doctoral thesis titled “Headmost Accent Wins.” Additionally, she earned her BA in Greek Philology with a major in Linguistics in 1999. From 2001 to 2009, she served as a Faculty Member at the Department of Mediterranean Studies, University of the Aegean. She also held a position as a Lecturer at the Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures, Boston University (September 2000 – August 2001). Between November 1998 and August 1999, she was a Postdoc Researcher at the Department of Linguistics, University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a TALENT–stipendium financed by the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research (NWO).

Prof. Revithiadou’s research interests encompass phonological theory (metrical and prosodic phonology), the morphosyntax-phonology interface, language typology and language contact. She has also a profound interest in contact-induced systems and, especially, endangered varieties of Greek that have been in long-term contact with Turkish (e.g., Asia Minor Greek, Ofitika Pontic, etc.). 

Her academic contributions are extensive, including 5 books, 7 edited volumes, 21 journal articles, 52 articles in edited volumes and proceedings, 16 encyclopedia entries and over 100 international conference presentations. She serves as the Secretary of the Complexity Center at A.U.Th. since 2017. Additionally, she has been a Member of the Board of Trustees for the Institute of the Modern Greek Studies – M. Triantafyllidis Foundation since 2022. 

In addition to her academic service, Prof. Revithiadou has been an active reviewer for journals, conferences, workshops, and research projects. Her dedication extends to supervisory roles for postdoctoral fellows, Ph.D. theses, and master’s theses, exemplifying her commitment to mentoring the next generation of scholars. 

Role in GRADIENCE: As the PI, Prof. Revithiadou actively engages in the management of the project, coordinating team members and related activities, ensuring the timely accomplishment of deadlines and the dissemination of research results within the linguistic community, and conducting research work in the area of linguistics.
